Polymarket, a crypto-based prediction market platform, is collaborating with blockchain analytics company Chainalysis to monitor trading activities and enforce its rules. This partnership aims to mitigate concerns related to insider trading and enhance market integrity.
As announced on Thursday by both firms, Chainalysis will deploy investigative software and onchain monitoring systems designed to identify patterns indicative of traders using non-public information. This initiative comes as prediction markets face increased scrutiny, with critics suggesting that platforms like Polymarket could be exploited by insiders such as political figures or corporate employees who might place informed bets before the public release of information. Such activities are illegal in traditional finance but enforcement has been ambiguous in crypto-based markets.
Polymarket is leveraging blockchain’s inherent transparency to track and analyze every trade recorded onchain, with Chainalysis’ data tools providing real-time detection of suspicious trades. If necessary, this evidence can be shared with regulators. The integration aims to demonstrate that rules can be enforced even in decentralized settings, thereby repositioning Polymarket as a credible financial platform rather than merely a crypto betting site.
“Our platform was built onchain because transparency matters, and it showcases what markets can look like when trades are open, traceable, and accountable by design,” said CEO Shayne Coplan. He emphasized that prediction markets offer more than speculation; they act as “a very useful thermometer of the world,” where prices reflect the probability of real-world outcomes, according to a recent statement in New York.
However, maintaining user trust is crucial for these markets’ reliability and accuracy. The risk of insider manipulation grows with Polymarket’s expansion, especially amid heightened attention during events like elections and increased interest from both retail traders and institutions. Coplan is focused on creating sustainable products that “last,” rather than chasing fleeting trends.
