DoorDash, a publicly traded company specializing in food, grocery, and retail delivery, plans to utilize Tempo’s blockchain technology, which focuses on stablecoins, for paying its delivery workers across more than 40 countries. The company aims to address the complexities associated with managing multiple currencies, payment systems, and regulatory demands by leveraging this blockchain network developed by Stripe and crypto venture firm Paradigm.
“Navigating global payments involves understanding diverse country-specific requirements,” remarked DoorDash co-founder Andy Fang in a statement. “Our goal is to deliver seamless solutions for customers while integrating adaptable systems that meet the varied needs of different nations, which lies at the heart of this challenge.”
DoorDash’s infrastructure on Tempo will concentrate on enhancing payout speed, minimizing cross-border costs, and improving transaction flexibility through stablecoins.
“Providing faster payouts to merchants and Dashers in a cost-effective manner benefits everyone involved,” said Fang. “Settlements via stablecoins can be completed in mere seconds, compared to the longer wait times typical of various countries.”
Moreover, using stablecoins helps reduce foreign currency spreads and intermediary fees.
Fang explained the choice of Tempo over other options due to its focus on payments and enterprise readiness: “Tempo brings not just technological expertise but also a comprehensive understanding of what enterprises like DoorDash require for practical application.”
Since launching its public mainnet in March, Tempo has collaborated with several major companies, such as Visa, Shopify, and OpenAI, focusing on payment-related use cases. The network began operations emphasizing an agentic payments protocol amid the growing interest in transactional AI agents.
As of Tuesday, DoorDash shares (DASH) experienced a nearly 2% decline to $186 but have surged by about 19% over the past month. A request for comment from DoorDash was not immediately returned.
